I have the 2 rail version, and it's very nice. Honestly, I'm surprised the ALP46 was made in O scale at all considering that it is unique to NJT. Of course, the production of the Traxx loco has to help with the economies of scale.
From a performance standpoint, the loco is a bit jumpy at very low speeds, but runs smoothly above 5 smph. The features are typical for any MTH proto 3 engine, and include operating pantographs, flashing ditch lights, bell, horn, and station anouncements. Thanks to the flexibility of proto 3, the ALP is equally at home whether opeating on AC, DC, DCC, or DCS.
