hello all,

i just got done installing an MTH proto 3 upgrade kit to a Weaver RSD12.  This is the first one I’ve done... installation was a bit time consuming but the loco tests good thus far in “conventional mode”.  Now the question... how in the world do I download and install the sound files into this engine?  Directions included with the conversion kit were useless.

please help!

thanks in advance!

You have the full DCS system right?

What part of the instructions messed you up? Let us know what you want to know.

Go to the MTH site and pick the ( newer PS3 models preferrably )type of engine you want the sounds for and download it to an easy place like your desktop.

like this engine?

click the support tab and the PS3 symbol

once downloaded, It needs to be unzipped. I would load the PS3 sound and chain file into the engine. I would use DC power for this.

Whatever you do, once you start the load, don't interrupt it!

connect your TIU to a short piece of track. Power it with DC power into Fixed #1 input and out of fixed #1 out to the track.

Connect your TIU to your computer. If version L TIU it has the USB connector like a printer cable end fits. Otherwise you'll need the serial adapter.

Using the latest DCS loader on your computer ( get it free from the MTH site)

choose send file to engine button in upper left.

A set of instructions will appear on your computer and follow them exactly.

Some of the MTH boards seem like they don't match up to the lighting outputs the way they should. That info is changed on different files. So if your board set doesn't give you the features correctly, change the chain file to the one you are building. (only on diesel boards) PS3/2 steam are different. Leave those alone!

When you are all done loading the chain file, the board may go into a beeping mode on power up. This means the board is in reset mode. It should clear after the power is cycled, sometimes twice.

There is a lot of great info in this post!

Look at all of the pages though.

Thank you very much- my resolve to complete this project has been strengthened!  The instructions didn’t really spell out how to hook up the TiU / PC interface.

The install was pretty straight forward.  Easy to do with the weaver RSD unit.  Motors were already flywheel equipped and lots of room under the shell.  Next attempt will be on a KTM brass NYC niagara.

Thanks again for the info.  I will give it a shot in the next few days. My old PC has Vista (yes I know I need a new computer..) I did read that I need to download some extra file prior to the download...

wish me luck!
