Do a reset. But model number would help. G
Where do I find model #?
unaware of how to do a reset.
Outside of the box will have model number. Or, enter the cab number in the search box on MTH's website and match your loco with the pic in the list.
Conventional reset is one whistle followed by 5 bells with a confirmation 2 whistle/horn blows if successful (may take a few tries).
We had one for the Eagle Scout project layout for the info age science museum. We always ran it conventionally. I was nervous that something may happen.
This is the closest manual that I could find for it. I didn't know the number. No box. It may be wrong, so I could the info, too.
It was a good runner for track testing. I liked the lighting bolt, too!

I am trying to figure out is the PS-1, 2 or 3. How is it operated, DCS or conventional. This could be a battery issue, a volume pot issue, a bad speaker, a basic reset, etc....G

I never got around to taking the shell off of it - it always fired up - no engine sounds - horn, bell whistle and squealing brakes - the squealing brakes would tell be that I had bad track joints or a power loss when it happened because I never changed the throttle
So, I never knew - I found the engine somehow on the MTH site, but there was no manual link, it's PS-1 or PS-2, I was guessing one and praying it didn't die. I was thinking someone must have put a BCR in it before it was donated to us.
The engine has "Delta Force Rapid Deployment " on the side

Found the model F40PH.
Discovered a bad connection with battery- fixed. Train runs. Still NO sound. Tried reset but with no sounds in response.
What do I try next (
you need to find the item number on the end flap of the box in came in like 30-3234 or 20-4576 etc that's what the item number looks like!
Alan
30-023c
was this bought on ebay?
Ray,
Here's the manual for it. Page 6 indicates the location of the manual volume control. Try adjusting that.
Secondly, you need an MTH transformer or controller. The bell and horn button signals are different than a Lionel or generic transformer. That will permit the manual reset sequence shown of page 10 that GGG gave to you.
Also, power it up in neutral and let it set there for while to recharge the battery, since you fixed the connection and it's running.

Look at speaker, if disintegrated magnet, replace with a 16 ohm speaker. The volume pot must be adjusted for volume when operated conventionally. 3 wires must be attached to volume pot. Gray, blue and red normally. G
I am able to do resets with an MRC Pure Power Dual.
