The mini-LGB phrase suggests using 0 ga track, but for larger scale models -- for example with 1:32 models on 0 ga track = 1m = 1:32 models of meter ga equipment.

Of course it could mean something else* -- with Mike, who knows !

Best, SZ

*And I think it does, since Busch does not offer much in the way of 1:32 buildings or other scenic stuff, I just checked.  So maybe it's something like a "typical LGB start set but std gauge", like a small tank loco [ please not another Br 80  or 89 ] and "old time" 4 wh psgr cars for those 22" radius curves ???

I am not surprised that Mike would want to offer a European 2 rail starter set. The only one on the market now is the Lenz starter set that contains a Kof switcher and two freight cars. I have the engine as a separte item and it runs great, like all my other Lenz engines. I think the potential for growth in the European two rail market was underestimated and if you offer a really good product at a good price it will sell. (Just look at the Brawa modern freight cars or the MTH modern freight cars.)

All the best,

Miketg

Mike also mentioned that this First Starer Set Engine will be a German Steamer..He also mentioned that He would like to see MTH`s first HO Steamer [An S 3/6 Bavarian] be the best ever offered over there.. Also mentioned is that MTH has found a Supplier of Bi-Colored LED`s [White to Red] that will fit and are made for HO Marker Lamp Castings..

I couldn't agree more - the class 08 shunters have been around a long time and so have appeared in many paint schemes; they are neat, functional and to be seen everywhere in the UK. Plus, they are likely to be around for along time yet - no need to replace what works so well! MTH could do well marketing different paint schemes over a period of years.

But (in my opinion)  if you want to appeal to enough UK 0 gauge operators, MTH would have to supply locos with switchable 2 and 3 rail options - and at 1/43 scale: the only smaller scale 0 gauge is in the tinplate market, which is quite a specialized interest here.

Busch Gardens in VA has some neat representations of European steam engines running around the park. Does anybody know the actual locomotives these are based on? It would be neat if MTH did o scale models of these steamers since they actually run in the US. ( I don't mean scale models of the Busch Gardens engines. I mean scale models of what they were based on. I'm pretty sure the Busch Gardens engines are themselves "scale" models. Just really large scale)

Hi Bob,

If you want an O gauge British rail/LMS class 08 Bachmann made one for the UK market and there seem to be plenty around. Try the Tower Models website.

And for anyone interested in UK O gauge I cannot speak highly enough of the UK's Gauge O Guild. They have a great website and if you join you get a fantastic quarterly magazine with a broad range of articles including some on US outline but mainly UK.

By the way Bachmann have moved out of the O gauge Brass market in the UK passing it on to Tower Models. They made some great stuff but I am not sure how they ended up so far from their traditional range.

Cheers

Pete

As I recall, the Busch Gardens locomotives were built by Sandly Light Railway and Equipment Works in the Wisconson Dells.  Sandley also built the 2-4-2 and reworked a German 0-8-0T (both 2' gauge) into a tender locomotive for the Brookfield Zoo.(Ilinois)  The Zoo locomotives are now in Heston, Indiana.  They all are essentially "freelanced" locomotives, with the specs from the 0-8-0T boiler being a staring point.

Sandly is long out of business, but the area remains as the "Riverside and Great Northern" miniature railroad in the Dells.     http://www.randgn.com/
