Has anyone opened up the MTH 30-11014 flasher to see what makes it flash? Is it a 555 chip in an astable configuration; or a simple two transistor multivibrator circuit with LEDs in each transistor collector leg?

Hi Sam, I think it's a 555 chip and the very least of components. That's the only way to make a profit on an item like that. I bought two sets of the crossing signals, but haven't used them yet. You have to open yours and tell us what's in there.
Marty is correct. It's a 555 circuit with the minimum components--- and they're all surface mount. one thing to note: the flash rate changes as the supply voltage is varied. this is due to the trigger/threshold voltage changing with the supply volts--
V(t)= 2/3 V supply----- I find that 11-12VAC or 16 VDC causes the flash rate to be close to the prototype--
Thanks for reply. I suspected 555 as it seems most MTH operating acessories use them in some configuration. They are almost no cost in large quantities.
