Kerrigan,
I works fine for me with Windows 7 Premium Home Edition.
Works fine on Win 7/64 Ultimate.
That's what I'm running on the 64-bit eMachine Barry. I'm wondering if it's something with the TIU ... I'll try a TIU factory reset first tomorrow before messing with it more.
The USB port on my Rev L TIU requires a USB Printer cable instead of the regular USB cable ... is that normal?
Kerrigan,
USB is USB, although the connectors come in a variety of shapes and sizes. If it fits, it works.

Yes, it is normal. USB uses a hub and spoke architecture. You can have many devices connected to the same buss, but they all tie back to just one computer at a time. That's important since USB not only moves data but also supplies power. If two computers were connected, both supplying power, you could have issues with voltage differences. Thumb drives and card readers will often have a built in cable or plug with a USB "standard A" connector that plugs directly into the computer, but that's because they don't use a separate cable. Virtually all other USB devices use a cable with a "standard A" end for the computer and a "B" end for the device. Most cameras, phones, etc., use either a USB "mini B" or "micro B" connector these days. MTH had a little more room to work with on the TIU than on a cell phone, so they used a USB "standard B" socket.
USB Printer cable? What's that? The TIU requires a standard USB A to B cable, the same kind that is used for many devices, including printers. I have external disk drives, a slide scanner, as well as a printer that uses that cable.
The A to B cable has the same power as one of the A to A cables, obviously the TIU interface has been designed to accommodate the presence of the 5V power coming from the USB B connector.
It's the USB cable on my HP LaserJet printer. "Regular" flat end and an almost square end.
Correct, that is the standard USB "A" to "B" cable. It used to be the most common type until everything moved to the mini-USB on the "B" end of the cable.
