Are you talking about that red set? From the photos it looks like it took a hit on one end of one of the cars.   The couple is bent(no biggie,  of course,  just bend it back),  and the car end is seperating a little.   Not exactly, his words,  "near mint".   Also,  the boxes were destroyed in a flood.  I'd stay away at that price any way.

I have two sets, the cream and red and the blue and silver both with their matching engines.  I'm not sure what problems you might be talking about.  I have found no problems with them.  The only "problem" that I would call generic as you say, and it seems to occur often is that many pieces will have a paint chip or two somewhere on the body.  Usually not very noticable but it's something to be aware of.

Anyway, about those types of cars, they have very nice proportions which is why I have two sets.  I also have a set in standard gauge and I really like them.  I'm still looking for the matching standard gauge engine to go with them though.

Good luck,

John.

I have the blue set. The trucks were missing a lot of black paint on all cars. I returned the cars to my dealer and the cars that were exchanged had the same problem. I ended up painstakingly repainting the black trucks with satin black paint on all of the cars and they look pretty good now. It looks like the red cars in the ebay picture have that same problem.
