Just got my new Premier 2-8-2 USRA Light Mikado Steam Engine w/Proto-Sound 3.0 (Hi-Rail Wheels) and found the Engine and Tender were both put into the styrofoam type package vertically instead of on its side with fancy ribbons to help pull them out.  I don't mind the new configuration, just find it a strange time in the company's timeline to change.  Also, the last two MTH engines didn't have sample smoke fluid.  Everybody else experiencing this same thing?

My 2 new Pacifics were packed on their sides. It seems to me the safer way to pack them is right side up as it allows for more packing around the side rods. No small bottle of smoke fluid, either, but that was no surprise as Premier locos are not "starter" trains and I suspect are, for the most part, purchased by veteran collectors/operators who most likely already have a good supply of smoke fluid.

A lot of locomotives are shipped upright side by side, that's pretty much the Lionel standard packaging of late for larger engines.  Newer MTH engines have been that way as well.  IMO it's a better way to pack them, I don't need no stinkin' ribbons!  Truthfully, I rarely use those clumsy ribbons anyway.  I normally hold the engine(s) in place with one hand and turn the box over on a soft cloth and lower them to the table.  It's way faster and easier to get them out.
