The plug which pushes up into the tender's plug comes loose occasionally.  Suggested fix to keep the plug in it's mount at the tender?  Suspect our layout has some minor bumps in the trackage around the track circuits with a number of switch /turnouts.  The plug snaps into it's mount but somehow loosens up and of course the engine won't run.

I purchased some clear plastic tubing (5/16-inch outside diameter, 3/16-inch inside diameter), cut a short piece, and pushed it onto the tender post after the drawbar was in place. Have had no further issue with the tether becoming loose. MTH made a retainer part to fix this issue but I haven't used it because the piece of tubing eliminated the problem on my layout, which has level Atlas O track - no bumps.

Thank you!  You all are amazing!  I'll go on line and order a couple of of the FB0000037's.  My GS4 is MTH 20-3749-1 SP"4449" Daylight.  Other than this issue we've been discussing, my locomotive is a beauty!  It looks, sounds, GREAT!  This is such a great site.  Thank you all, and Aloha from Hawaii.  I will respond back how the end result worked out.

Further update:  Just now I was able to go on MTH's parts site and ordered 4 of the drawbar retainer caps FB0000037.  I have a couple of other MTH locomotives with this issue potential to occur on track.  Thank you for the immediate good to go info!  My GS4 SP "4449" is VERY popular on our layout.  Thank you Vernon Barry and Melgar.

For all of you, please have a look at:  hawaiianrailway.com  This is our non-profit site.  On the home page on the left click on "toys & trains museum."  Click the second multi-pane window for our layout video when first opened in 17'.  Starts with a Hawaiian Priest Blessing followed by a layout on track tour.  Since opening we have expanded substantially.  Visit us if in Hawaii, Aloha!
