Gang, just got a collection of MTH 2 rail locos in and would like to test the PS2 equipped engines before putting up for sale. I have NO reason to think these are not like new / maybe display only models, but if I sell it, I must know it runs. So, my question is how, if I can, test these engines without a DCS system? All are -2 part numbers and thus factory 2 rail loco's Loco shop told me they will "run" on AC power? Will PS2 only work with DCS control? Thanks, Bruce Mt. Airy

You can test conventionally with any AC transformer. Bell and whistle button help. You won't know for sure if they work in DCS with out a DCS system. Any that are older PS-2 5V will most likely have bad batteries and that can be an issue to resolve too. G

Also, there is a poor-man's DCS setup, the Remote Commander:

$65 on eBay including shipping. All you need in addition is an AC transformer to supply the power.
