Hello everybody

I pulled my E8 Erie PS2 AA off the shelf after not running for  a while, added smoke fluid and ran it. The smoke unit in 1 A unit shuts off when I lower the speed and then goes back on when I increase the speed? The other a unit is fine. I'm sure I have 18 volts at track.

While on the same subject I have another smoke question. Most of my train sit for a while before I run them. Is it a good idea to add smoke fluid when I am done running?

Much thanks for your help as usual, Jerry

Thanks for the reply Joe. I'm sure my track power is fine. It is happening to the trailing unit and that's the lead unit. I had it put on a track backwards if that has anything to do with it? Again, the other unit is working just fine just that slave unit when I Cat Power could be that I have too much smoke fluid in it?. I really don't have any way to test it on a bench other than hooking up alligator clips to it. What do you think is happening. I don't remember it doing this before.

Please advise, and thanks again,Jerry

I'd need to go look at how the slave is wired. I'm thinking it maybe a tether issue and lost signal or the fan motor is only working at higher voltages. These are just guesses. I've seen fan motors starting to fail where they only spin at higher volts. I've seen where tethers fail and just need to be resoldered.

I'm not a tech and I'm not positive how the slave gets the message to smoke. If it's thru the tether, it would be a great place to look after making sure the fan,  smoke unit, and wires are solid. I would also look closely at the slaves power wires right near the trucks. Maybe a wire is off or chaffed?

I'm thinking put them both on the bench connected together. Connect power directly to the engines with alligator clips. See if the slave stops smoking as the power is lowered. That takes the track and it's wiring out of the equation.

Also try moving the clips around to see if all the rollers and power points get power to them.
