The passenger compartment lights will always come on since they run on track power.

The fact that the engine has no sounds when power is applied with the DCSRC attached means that the engine sees the DCS watchdog signal. However, it doesn't respond to the handheld most likely because its DCS ID# is not set to factory default.

It appears that the engine has been run with DCS previously and was not Factory Reset, from a DCS Remote, prior to you acquiring it.

This and a whole lot more is all in "The DCS O Gauge Companion 2nd Edition", now available for purchase as an eBook or a printed book from MTH's web store site! Click on the link below to go to MTH's web page for the book!

Rich,

,i set it with the z1000 ,back to default settings per manual

Contrary to what the manual says, a transformer reset is only a Feature Reset, and does not reset the engine to its Factory DCS ID#.

You need to find someone with a DCS system (remote and TIU) or a DCS Commander (not a DCS Remote Commander) to Factory Reset the engine.

Final Note after Bob's post. Power down and remove the engine from the track, do not use the Remote to access an engine until you have done this.

I cannot confirm but heard rumors that sometimes the engine (since it still has power and was just addressed) will think it's being addressed and will again pick up a non factory address.
