I was expecting something in the MTH S catalog on starter sets. I think at one time we heard we could expect them by Christmas 2013. But if they are not in the catalog already...? Anyone know anything? Thanks, Ken

I was expecting some kind of starter set as well. This would seem to be a no-brainer to get people to try S scale/gauge,why they didn't offer anyhting like a set is beyond me. Maybe it is part of their strategy in S scale?
I think MTH has to first figure out how to get the MSRP down for a starter set. Right now there's only one locomotive (F3) in the catalog and a single unit retails for $380. That's more than what the Lionel/Flyer Berkshire sets are anticipated to be (about $350.00) and is almost as much as a O gauge Railking 4-6-0 set ($400.)

Heck, they didn't even resuscitate SHS's caboose in the initial catalog. I hear many of the former SHS cars are hard to assemble, and MTH has to rethink the assembly process. I'll bet a starter set will include a loco and cars of all new tooling. Like a Railking grade 2-6-0 or 4-6-0. Perhaps passenger cars would add more depth to the line up than cheaper freight cars could.
