Did a quick search, but couldn't find something to answer my issue.

Here's what happened: a train derailed, shorted the power supply, and the power supply (z750) tripped. Happened a few times before with no issue. The issue now is that the red light on the TIU doesn't come on when I supply power to any of the 4 (fixed/var.) ports. However, the red light appears when I plug the power supply into the Aux port.

I'm not literate in electrical components or systems. What could be the issue? Trip to a service center?

TIU Version: I (not sure if it's I or L -- it looks like an l on the back of the TIU).

I have the power supply going into the FIXED 1 and that's how I power my one track for now. No transformers. This is a temporary setup as the TIU and DCS with WIFI are brand new to me. If this set up has flaws, please provide recommendations for when I wire my Christmas layout

Thanks!

does the tiu work if you power fixed one and aux power input? does it report to your remote and tiu talk to each other?

TIU is Version l (not sure if this is I or L--it looks like a lowercase L).

Haven't tried power to aux & fixed 1. I'll try later.

Sounds like you did not have transient voltage protection on the circuit.  The short blew the diode D300 on Fixed 1.  This can be checked and replaced, preferably by a qualified technician.   Do yourself a favor, since you have had derailments in the past, install a TVS system with 10amp fast blow fuses.

Thanks, Bruce. I'll reach out to a local certified repair shop for MTH. And yes, I'm thinking that will help tremendously...a few questions, though, assuming the blown diode on fixed 1:

  • Is the Diode replacement cheap?
  • What is a TVS system?
  • I cannot operate/power the TIU on Fixed 2 as I would normally with via Fixed 1? Fixed 2 requires Aux power as well?
  • Would a Z4000 suffice as a workaround for the TVS? I believe, from what I can remember, a friend has his Z4000 hooked up to Fixed 1 and 2, and the Z4000 serves as a fuse/breaker.
  • Do you recommend getting a newer TIU? Mine has the serial port.
