So I'm planning on using the winter cabin fever to build up a display diorama that can be portable for shows. I've got 4 sections of Gargraves track that I plan on laying out on basically a rectangular tabletop yard display. I know it'll be something that two people will have to carry to and from my SUV. So with that in mind, should I build a frame for the top? I assume I should use plywood, right? This will be a static display to showcase the rolling stock I bring. I'd like to have various levels of terrain, so what foam should I use? Is there a cheap alternative to using cork roadbed, Homasote, etc? Any tips on gluing down everything, including ballast, so I don't have to dicker with everything once I get to the show?

I know, it's a lot to ask. Please be gentle!
