Here is 2 cars from my own railroad , the one I have not worked on in 2 years ! Yikes

Maybe one day , at least I will have some cool freight cars . I like going online and finding cars to copy .

The Railbox and Simplot cars are modeled from photos. The TTX flat as well.

Wow Awesome work, you said you built some of them from photos,  most photos of trains i see are angle shots or far away shots. How did you get your dimensions to build all the parts? i see dimension of cars on the internet but they just have overall length and width and height. Those doors on the box cars look pretty intricate and I'm just curious how you built them to prototype. I am going to get into scratch building sometime in the near future hopefully and I'm just in research mode right now haha.

Advice would be much appreciated, Thanks

Hi Mike ,

Actually I go into sidings and take measurements off cars and Photos .

A lot of dimensional data is right on the cars . I am not a exacto, perfecto on every last thing . I do get the weathering and graffiti as close as possible .

Scratch building is an acquired skill. The more you do it the better the results and have patience . For example to make a master for molding on say a Hy-cube box car , it may take 100 hrs to make the master . Tough sledding . But to do just one , old model magazines have many drawings and blue prints . I use these to.

Here is a car I am in process of making .
