Bob,
That's good information.
Thanks, Good luck, John
Note that it's only a 100khz 'scope, so I'd consider a better model. If you actually need a 'scope, spend an extra $50 or so.
ARM DSO203 Nano 4 Channel Mini V2/Quad Pocket Digital Oscilloscope
How about a combo 'scope and meter?
LCD Oscilloscope 2 in1 25MHz Multimeter Mini Digital Handheld Scopemeter
John,
I wasn't sure what range I would need for trains and that's why I asked. I doubt I'd ever use it for anything else.
Well, for the command systems, the TMCC signal is 455khz, and the DCS carrier is 3.27mhz. However, if you're looking at stuff on the boards, there can easily be signals at faster rates. Also, the higher quality 'scopes have a lot more functionality in terms of measurement. Truthfully, if you feel the need for a digital 'scope, I'd step up to something like the many 100mhz dual-channel models that can be had in the $300-400 range. It's a tool that you won't outgrow, and will truly handle anything you're likely to encounter with model trains.
Here's a nice buy, eBay: 291138069734 for $262.68, free shipping.

After I clicked the link, I was lost with the rest of the this post. Though I'm glad this makes sense to some people.
Bob, I just hate to see someone buy something that really isn't going to do what they need when there are better options available.
When you're talking electronic test equipment, you're in my wheelhouse now.
Thanks John! The last time I used a scope 2 men and a boy had to carry it to the ship it was so heavy!!! That was back around 1980.
Most likely I don't need one. Every once in a while I get curious as to what a component is doing, but not $400 curious
The average guy working on this stuff probably doesn't need one. It's key at times when you're designing something, really does what no other piece of equipment will do for you.
