Need Roundhouse Help

I just got off the phone with Just Trains and as it has been discussed in this forum already, Korber models will no longer be made and they are out of O-gauge roundhouses. I've met Mr. Korber twice a few years before he passed, he was a nice man with a love for what he did. It was always a pleasure to spend some time with him and just talk.

That being said, I would like to find a nice roundhouse kit. I have seen the Atlas ones but not a big fan. Other than scratch building one or finding a Korber one at a show or something, can anyone direct me to other kits that may be simiular in style and design. Thanks for any assistance.

Too bad about Korber. They certainly filled the bill for many of us. I'd be surprised if you can't find one on eBay over time or someone who still has one in stock in a LHS online. If not, here's some possibilities you might consider:

http://www.modelrailroadkit.co...ousemachineshop.html (called the Wolf Creek Roundhouse). Pretty unusual model with a lot of character since it's wood based.

http://www.cccrow.com/pages/o-np90rh-pg.html (I think this is a future model they're considering).

http://www.bantamodelworks.com/

There's also one by http://www.DeerfieldRiverLaser.com. Not sure if it's only On30 or will fit O scale as well. There's one on eBay with stall measurements.

I have always admired Carl Tuveson's S scale Roundhouse I believe it is a kit bash of at least (4) (IHC) Atlas Engine houses. The Korber kits (304 or 320) where basicly wall panels and poor at that. You had to do a floor and for best results a roof. If you can get enough wall panels out of (4) Atlas engine house kit. Go for it. From Carl's website.

As I look at the pictures it appears that Carl fabricated the three window panels on the back of the house, what a great job. You can note the inside splice on the last picture I posted.

If I went with Korber, i would want the shorter 320.
I would be using it mainly for  PRR switchers none large than a B6.
With maybe a  straight thru garden track just in case I ever need it.
 
Do not want it to look like a McMansion.
 
My largest engines are two Bershires, maybe 18-19" max. And I already have 3 sheds to store and service them. But they would also easily fit in the 320.
 
Do you plan on making that model ?

Dennis,

I had a couple of questions regarding your roundhouse.

- Is there a lead time involved with your roundhouse kit?

- Also will you have expansion bays or extensions?

- What will be the approximate cost of your kit?

- It appears that the doors on the front of the roundhouse are "rolling type" do you have

  wooden doors available that would match?

Yes Mike we plan to have them at York baring any issues.

 

FMH, Yes we will be doing the 320 as well, it will lag the 304  availability a bit, and will also have the new windows. In addition to the windows, we have redone the instructions, framing templates, floor plan to make building it simpler, including photos.  We also have added, with help form forum members, some optional add on's you can customized your round house with.
