I have a nice size layout, 25X12 in my steel building/garage. Around the top of the walls there is a tray that I could put a 2X4 in and have a nice long run (about 180 feet) The problem is it is 9' up from the floor or 6' above the table. After looking it over, I came up with the idea of a 6' helix using O72 track. Problem is it will take almost 200 curves. Am trying to buy some, but so far have not been able to find any reasonable. Another possibility is using a 031 then a straight then another 031 etc. will make a circle close to the 6' the O72 would make, but I am concerned about the 031 rails. I don't currently have any engines that require the 072, but who knows. Any ideas?

I would not suggest the 031. While it may "fit" geometrically, the continuous tight curves would be a bear on your motive power. I'd suggest using 37" sections of Gargraves flex track. Build a bending template and go to it.

Before you do anything, I'd do a search on helix on this forum. There are issues that you'll need to work through; many of which may already have been addressed.
