There are some direct replacement lamps (bulbs) for some toy train applications; and others can be jerry-rigged. There is much discussion available on various sub-sections of this forum.

Why not start with a Forum sponsor, Evan Designs?

>>>I am looking for replacement bulbs for Lionel's #6-2170 street lights and #76 boulevard lights and thus far have come up empty with numerous Google searches.  Also would like to know if there are any LED bulbs out there that could be used as substitutes.<<

I've asked that question countless times without ever getting a definitive answer.

Seems like the options available to replace PW style bulbs with LED's are all over the board. Each type of bulb (too brite, too white, too yellow, too dim) having a positive and negative lighting result.

I only wish someone with time and knowledge on the topic would write a comprehensive article somewhere to explain the differences

Hi all,  newby here.  Greetings from Ohio.

I've had good service from AutoLumination website.  They have a great selection of bayonet, screw & wedge base bulbs in most common colors and several white & frosted, pear shaped for street lights.  Also LED bulbs in different bases & colors.  Plus, the prices are ~1/2 that at a train show or hobby shop.  A red or green, screw or bayonet base, 18V bulb is $0.55.  LED bulbs are on the order of $3 & come in E10 or Ba9 bases.  Oh heck, check out the web site!
