Our Club is building a new layout; we would like some advice on a good "neutral" color paint for the Homasote top to which we will eventually add other colors, grass, etc.. Any suggestions?
This may surprise you, but the best choice for painting the base coat is flat black. It is true that this commits you to a fairly thorough covering, but it is the best way to simulate the deep shadows that you always find in nature on a sunny day. It is the flip side of the common advice to end with dry-brushed pure white. Everybody agrees on the latter, but the former seems to not be widely understood.
