The second-half of 2014 Catalog is on online.

They have a lot of new paint scheme and new road numbers that are right for my time period and railroads.

There are enough new paint schemes and road numbers to fill up a 1980's-1990's freight train for me.

The 25,500 Gallon tank cars, 40' AIRSLIDE hoppers, the PS-2-CD 4750 3-bay hoppers, and the ACF Auto Parts 60' Box Cars have new road numbers and new paint schemes.

They have to catch up on delivering locomotives.

It will be interesting to see how many of the new catalog anouncements get into production, on the current shipping schedule there are 9 masterline cancellations of previously made rolling stock. The upside to this is that hopefully Atlas introduces some new rolling stock[note there are no Tman cancellations] loco production continues to be a very slow process, anything new may be quite a ways off.

A large number of the cars with new road numbers and new paint schemes have a delivery estimate of 3rd quarter 2015.

Everyone will have to be content with what Atlas O has already made while waiting a year for everything to be produced and delivered to the hobby shops.

Plan ahead and do something else in the meantime.

The cars that I would like to get in a month are the Chicago & North Western PS-4750 3-bay covered hoppers in the Zito or Safety Yellow scheme. I can not wait a year for them to be made.

The cover for the second half catalog is posted on the website but it only opens to the previous catalog[unless I am missing something]

Looks like the Atlas O Trainman Engine House will indeed become available again ($89.99). I am assuming that it's the two-engine house. I guess I should place a preorder in the next week or two.

I haven't assembled a plastic model kit in decades. I hope I don't screw it up. I recall the punishing aroma of Duco Cement and glue encrusted fingers when I built model cars as a teenager.

As with the previous catalog, I suspect a good number of products/roadnames -- especially Master Line -- will never see the light of day.  RS-1 locomotives at $480, big tankers at $95, 40' reefers at $80, 36' reefers at $72  ... are just a few select price-points that will only attract die-hard enthusiasts.

Combined with minimum order requirements, it's no wonder an increasing number of road-names -- and in some cases, entire products -- are canceled.  Nice stuff for sure, but Atlas-O as an importer just isn't gonna be left holding inventory these days.  And unlike Lionel's largest dealers, Atlas-O dealers aren't likely to order extras just to help meet Atlas-O production minimums and/or gamble on folks buying after products hit the street.

No blowouts here, folks!

Bear in mind all of the cars that have been cancelled on the delivery schedule had been run a number of times in the past and in there initial runs years back had been run in much larger quantities, train shows were loaded with some of these cars for years. In many cases Repaints alone no longer get enough reservations. The newest cars that are only getting rerun in new or popular schemes will get enough reservations to be produced [Trinity cars].JMO

The most frustrating element to Atlas-O's business model is when you miss a pre-order deadline with your dealer, there's a good chance you're out of luck completely.  For example, try finding the recently released (a few months ago) Bethlehem Steel coil cars.  I suppose there might me one or two sitting on a shelf somewhere in a small LHS that may have ordered a couple "extra".  Aside from that, they're just nowhere to be found.

I really liked that last run of containers they did, as I picked up the never done before Hyundais.  However, I noticed one online retailer is currently blowing-out 45' containers for $14.99.  Other dealers still have plenty of stock.

I suspect Atlas is disappointed in this and will not be doing another run soon.  I can't blame them for being conservative, but I hate to see this happen.

No question Atlas is investing far less  in O guage today than previous years, I believe the loss of their major builder[Sanda Kan] and a changing market are key factors in their current marketing. Lionel and MTH have stepped up their scale size offerings  to follow the Atlas lead thereby cutting in to the Atlas 3 rail market share, Masterline new products at current pricing are going to be limited in volume to the reservation system.

Who is currently offering this price on containers?

Nothing much for me in this catalog. Maybe one or two of the woodside reefers, but none of them exactly sets my heart a-flutter. I mainly do steam era, so most of the current Atlas line is irrelevant to me. The steam era boxcars are mostly just new numbers, or duplicates of paint schemes I already have from other manufacturers. I might get a 60' RPO in Milwaukee Road - I'll have to check my collection and see if I have a heavyweight RPO or not.

I saw two things that I was eager to get someday.

The Soo Line PS-1 50' Box Cars.

The Soo Line RS-1 diesel-electric locomotive.

The PS-1 50' Box Cars in that run were cancelled.

The SOO RS-1 locomotive did not make the final cut in the final order form.

The Soo Line 1937 40' Steel Re-built Box Cars did get produced and I got them.

You have to order it to see if everybody else will order it, so they will make it, and you can get it.

Where did you see a Soo RS-1? I didn't see it in the new catalog.
