Can anyone verify whether the Amfleet cars offered in the new catalog use the tooling from the long-ago issued versions that came in a set powered by the HHP-8, or are they based on MTH tooling?  In my opinion, the original Lionels are more realistic in proportions than are the MTH cars.  The (re)issuance of the very hard to find cab-control car is a welcome addition.

Thanks,
Joe S.

I have the HHP8 Set with the Amtrak cars.   The set came with 048 fasttrak curves.  I also bought the MTH ones around the same time and attached photos of both side by side.   Both cars measure around 18 1/2 inches.   MTH has more details with the vestibule.  Lionel's windows are smaller, but I liked the details inside.    I use both cars and run them as two different trains.  I am looking forward to seeing what improvement Lional and Atlas will make to their models.

Appears to be the former tooling- as stated above Atlas bought and has shown they'll be releasing the MTH premier Amfleets. As far as this tooling from Lionel goes...I actually like it BUT it doesn't match up well with the 19" Atlas/MTH Amfleets, the 21" Atlas O Horizons, 21" K-line Heritage cars, or the K-line Superliner 2s or the most recent Lionel heritage cars. Despite differences in length with the non-scale Atlas/MTH amfleets at the very least they can appear compatible in other dimensions with the rest of the aforementioned. These Lionel Amfleets look best when put in a consist which contains only these cars, the profile doesn't look right, otherwise. IMO.

Don't mean to impede on the thread-but were there any F40PH in phase V that were powered? Trying to decide which powered unit to choose.
