I finally found time to drive my new Lionel Yellow Bonnets - ordered back in February and received last Friday.  These are the first Legacy locomotives that I have purchased.  I like how they look in general (attention to detail, etc.), I like the lights, and I like the sounds.  I captured some photos and thought to post some here.

Peace,

Sam

Ahoy, c.sam!

Yes, the sides are 'plated;' different from the other/adjacent silver areas.  I grabbed a couple more photos and tried to capture that feature a little more clearly.

Hope those help.

I have it in my head that when the 2022 'Big Book' catalog first came out and the Lionel boys put up a YouTube video going through it page-by-page that they indicated the two A units of the Yellow Bonnet pair would be different from one another with respect to the way the yellow and blue manifested on the nose - that is, both would be prototypical but they would not be the same.  The only difference I can see on these units is what shows up in the number boards, so I guess something changed between now and then (and I don't discount the possibility that my memory is faulty).  In any case, I think Lionel did a nice job with these units.

@CurlSnout, Sam, Wow, thanks for posting the beautiful pictures of your new F7 Sante Fe diesel set, it’s really nice. Do you run these diesels  with a Cab 2 Legacy remote?, Cab 1L, or conventional?, and are they pre-programmed as engine 1, engine 99 from the factory? I was so happy that Lionel offered these units I actually sold some older locomotives to make these more affordable to my budget. I will open mine Saturday to check them out. I opted for the ABBA set. Merry Christmas and Happy Railroading Everyone.702D1556-7C87-4F8C-97F9-762F7DEA4B51B43D35F0-150F-4750-A56E-026F686C6868

@leapinlarry,

I'm currently running everything 'old school' - as in, in conventional mode.  Maybe someday I'll join the ranks of real Legacy users; it would be nice to explore all of the options that are built into these units.  Congratulations on your new ABBA set; that sounds like great fun.  Please post back when you get a chance and let us know how you are getting on with them.

edit: I just checked the included documentation; it looks like the locomotives come with the default ID as #1 (and will respond to #99) - but you can assign any number from 1 to 98 that has not been assigned to another locomotive.  But you probably already know more about this stuff than I do.

@CarlSnout, I really like your wood finished train room, train table, wood panel walls, wood tunnels, wood tunnels, wood buildings, it looks really neat, and your thread will grow as folks review your new Sante Fe Yellow Bonnets. I’ll be back Saturday.  (get a legacy control set as soon as you can, you will be very pleased when you do). Happy Railroading Everyone

Well fellows, I said earlier in this thread that I would show pictures of my new yellow bonnet Sante Fe diesels when they arrived. They are here and the Legacy sounds are fantastic, different than other versions from the past. It comes programmed as Eng 1, runs the pair of powered diesels and the Super Bass dummy B unit. It’s so cool. I ordered a set of the Santa Fe F7 Yellow Bonnets.  They will be a Christmas gift for me.  When first cataloged, this engine captured a special place in my heart.  I had the same paint scheme in Atlas HO back in the 1970s.  When I googled the engine as I was interested in learning more, I saw the Atlas HO engine that I had and it made me smile.
