I am having a problem locating new MTH engines, NEW N&W J, NS 4001 4400, NS heritage southern,  last Christmas it was the Christmas imperial 4400 which MTH fixed and sent back.

On the engines still not being located I am not hearing the familiar " click sound found on other engines when you add power, are the new PS3 engines not using the old " Click"sound? when looking for engines

I am using a new TIU and remote which found a new H10-44 very quickly today which the brown truck dropped off., however no luck finding the other engines. is this a common problem with the new MTH engines? seems to much of a coincidence that 4 out of the last five seem to have the problem.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

John

You are probably better than I am, but I have to ask..... (I'm just throwing stuff out there....)

Are you sure they're not in the remote already?

Does each one run in conventional?

Let each charge on the powered track before adding?

Does each play shut down sequence if power is killed?

Do you have the MTH loader in your computer? You could see if there's an address stored in each engine and if the loader sees each. That helps on where to look for the problem.

Do you have more than one TIU?

Have you tried adding the engine to TIU #1 with a tether connected? (for a test)

New version of DCS in both remote and TIU? (what version?)

-you should be able to find the loco in the remote a few seconds after powering up the track though the TIU.

-does it run in conventional?  If not it could be a bad ground or a loose plug.

-check to see if there is a DCC/DCS switch on the bottom or under the hatch in the roof.

-if you feel like removing the body, inspect the wiring over the board from both the 8 and 40 pin connectors.  Wires should go over the 4 folded caps.

Thanks guys,

First I will leave them on a hot track for a bit longer and see what happens.

I have three remotes and TIU's one is new and that is the one I am using, the Remote is also new.

All the other TIUs are off except the new one.

I do not have a tether from the remote to the TIU, what is it called?

I do not have a loader? what is it? is it a computer cable?

The e4400 NS4001 will start up in conventional but will not run in conventional, it stalls out.

No shut down sequence on any of them.

Are you sure they're not in the remote already? they are all new.;

I disconnect all the tiu outputs to my layout and connect a test track section. Tiu only sees the engine on the test track. This method has always found my engines.  I have one however it also does not work.

I have other MTH engines that are firing right up, it is only the new ones I am having the start up issues on.

I will let the sit on the fired up track for a while to see what happens, if no luck there I will cal George at MTH tomorrow.

Thanks again guys.

That maybe pointing to the issue? They should play sounds when the power is cut. They should also run in conventional.

Some of my brand new PS3 engines out of the box, needed a factory reset using one horn and five bell button pushes.

It was like they were scrambled from the factory. The reset straightened them out after that.

Thanks Joe, I tried putting it on the track for a good bit at least 20 minutes and got zip. I have a Z4000.  I will do as you suggested tomorrow, the bed time meds are kicking in.  I am getting the feeling it may not be just the engines, tomorrow I will change the new TIU out if the reset does not work .

Thank you again. I will get back to you tomorrow after 12:00 noon.

John

I had a couple of new engines that I had the same problem, spent hours trying to figure it out...  Track, tiu, remote etc, only to find out that the switch was set for 2 rail.  switch it to 3 rail and it was a good.  Also I received two brand new engines that didn't work and set them back to the dealer (thanks again Steve aka Mr Muffins), and they found out that the wires had come loose from the soldier.
