Hi, I am a newbie to model railroading. I bought the Lionel Keystone Special train set before christmas. I've added a few boxcars and some track to make a 8 by 3 foot figure 8 layout. I am probably going to work with this smaller size layout for awhile. I am just using the standard power supply that came with my train set. I bought 1 plug play expand station platform and the lionel animated chicken car with the 10" accessory track needed. I can't use that track and the train at the same time. I'm assuming that is because I don't have a big enough power supply.

What would be my next logical step in a bigger power option? I may want to add a lion chief plus 2.0 engine soon.

Thanks,

NovaSteve

Looking up this set on Ebay revealed a Trainz listing that showed a photo of the power supply (a wall wart) and listed its power (54 watts).

That's pretty small.

I would think that for economy's sake, your next steps would be either a Lionel CW-80 (80 watts, msrp $149) or an MTH Z-1000 (100 watts, around the same msrp with the wired Z-controller, a bit less for just the power brick if you're only going to use the LionChief remote)
