I bought a pair of the NJI 3165 gates to replace the mast flashers. Before I installed them I wanted to check the LEDS functioned OK.
Using a 5V supply I hooked the black wire to + terminal, which is correct as these are wired as anode supply, cathode ground. Touching one resistor to - terminal lit the right set of mast lights and the middle gate arm lamp. Touching the other wire to the - terminal lit the left set of mast lights and the gate arm first and tip lamps. This is certainly not North American protypical operation where the gate arm first and middle lamps flash in sync with mast lamps and tip burns steady.
Just surprised that a company such as NJI that prides itself in accurate scale signals would allow this detail to get past them. I have sent a inquiry ro NJI and awaiting reply. Obviously this must not be a big problem with modelers as I am sure NJI would have corrected this by now.
After studying how these are wired I can see a simple wiring way to do this, retaining the present three wires, but it involves steady hands, a microscope and willing to tear these apart to fix problem. If interested I can post my solution.
The supplier have graciously offered a refund if I wish to return them.
Anyone else using these gates? I may also posted this on the O gauge forum, although probably not good form to run same thing in two places, but this problem has "legs" in both arenas.
