Hi Folks,

I'm trying to add a new MTH SD50 Norfolk Southern Diesel I just purchased to my setup using the MTH TIU and remote but the message I get is No Engine to add.   The track is getting power and if I put on an analog MTH controller I can control the speed but the whistles and bells don't work.    A few weeks ago I did get the whistles to work when I had all 3 MTH engines running on an analog controller but not since.  Really stumped.   All my other engines work fine (all MTH) but this one is being stubborn.

All the other engines work fine would seem to eliminate a remote issue.  G

It would seem that way however if the remote and tiu are not communicating nothing is going to work period. Does it hurt to ask?? What's an analog MTH controller?

If other engines work fine, don't do the read. It will only move unpowered engines to the Inactive Engine List.

As suggested by GGG, try to recover the engine's DCS ID#, which may have moved out of the useable range:

  • You must be using DCS 4.10 or higher
  • Make sure that no other engines are powered up
  • Make sure that your TIU has an ID# of "1"
  • Press Menu/System/Engine Setup/Recover Engine.

If the engine is recovered, attempt to add it to the DCS Remote.

This and a whole lot more is all in MTH’s “The DCS O Gauge Companion 2nd Edition", available for purchase as an eBook or a printed book at MTH's web store!

Well  here's my take on it,First step is find out whether the remote and tiu are communicating. If they're not nothing is ever  going to work.

Second step. What kind of track signal?

third step.. are you using a programming track with no other engines powered ?

Forth . recover engine feature. And yes I know about the read .  I too avoid it  but sometimes it's a necessity.   So a few non powered  engine go in the inactive list . They' ll come out. Unless the software is screwed up again.

Fifth.. reset remote....
