So, i bought this used Everything else works perfect I zapped the lights separate with 3 v and they work, but even after several re starts and re booting as many have suggested, the rear lights do not come on when in reverse..Rule 17 has no effect. Any suggestions?

Since this is an older Legacy with the modular boards, the reverse lights are almost surely controlled by the RCDR board. If you've checked all the wiring, I'd consider swapping that board or at least testing it.
Yea. Seems like a lot of trouble for those little LEDs. Might have to live with it
thanks ill try that
BTW what shall i use to clean those contacts? Alcohol?
Try and rub them with an eraser then wipe them with alcohol.
ok thanks
Be vary careful cleaning contacts with an eraser. A pink eraser is abrasive, and the 10-20 micron thick gold flash is very easily scrubbed off, the, you'll have lots more contact issues. Using a non-abrasive cleaner is the way to go. If you must use an eraser, use a soft white Mylar eraser, those are much more gentle.
Thanks I did as you suggested, and that didn't do the trick anyway No lights Checked the LEDs again, they are working Somehow the reversing signal is not getting through Its no big deal, but like many of these issues it drives me nuts I'm not going to mess with the board, not worth the trouble. Oh well
So, now I'm wondering if the clarification is wrong on the Legacy CAB-2 controller? Maybe change from Diesel to electric? Would that throw other things off? HMMMM?
The reverse headlight should work for virtually any engine type. A change from diesel to electric won't change anything.
ok thanks it must the board..cant figure it out!!! OY
its so funny how these minor almost insignificant details drives us crazy???
Well, all the lights on the rear being out would bother me, so I don't think it's an insignificant detail.
'ALL the lights? no, just the directional ones...and im not going to loose sleep over it and im certainly not going to take apart the electronics to find the cause...oh well
LEDs fried. How much much will Lionel charge to fix? Any ideas?
If it's out of warranty, Lionel won't fix it, they only do warranty repairs.
Yea, they just informed me of that
