Was there a particular style of water tower used by the NYC during the steam era? Or did they just use any type? Is there a company who makes/made one?

Interesting question. I have a book on coaling towers, various, on different railroads,
and many appear (as identified by photo captions) to be similar designs customized for the site or customer by a few construction companies. A lot of water towers look alike, so I wonder if there were a few construction companies, contracting to various railroads, specializing in those, too?
(of course, some look like they were built by the road's own facilities dept., such as
those on the two foot Maine roads)
