It depends on what you run.  Semi-scale stuff may do fine, scale stuff may or may not.

I have both 054 and 072 curves on my layout and can run all my 40 and 50 foot cars around everything.  84 foot passenger cars don't do well on 054 if they have body-mounted couplers, they may work on 063/064 but I don't have any to test them on.

I have a dreaded "S" curve with 2 054 switches at each end and my Williams brass 2-8-2 has to be run very slowly thru them or it will derail.  My 3rd Rail E7 also does not like 054 curves, but will go thru if I run very slowly.

If you stick to under 50 foot cars and 4-wheel trucked diesels (GP7/9 etc) or steamers that are not too long

When it comes to curves in O scale...bigger is always better.

I also have an Atlas O-63 reversing S loop on my layout.  It starts with an O-54/O-72 switch then an easement starting with O-81 and O-72 curves as I remember.  This is followed by O-63 curves and a couple of straight tracks followed by O-63 curves, the easement and an O-72 switch.  I run my trains slowly through this part and have had no problems, yet.  (large Pennsy Power,Centipedes)
