OK Guys,

Was looking at the MRC Z-1000, and this model popped up.   I don't really like a "hand control" throttle at all, but with 270 Watts of AC Power, I may have to consider this.

Anybody every used one?

A puzzlement to me is this statement on the side of the box:   The Dual Power 027 is not for use with common rail layouts."

Geez, don't all O-gauge layouts have a "common rail".

Thanks for any info or experiences.

I have four of them and use them for conventional running on temporary layouts. In the past I used it with the 990 Legacy base and it worked fine. The AH101 has four outputs, two separate 0-16V track power, one fixed 10V and one fixed 14V. The commons for all four outputs are tied together inside the transformer. I have no idea why that caution about common rail layouts would be printed on the box.

The output is not a pure sine wave. It works fine with conventional, FlyerChief (LionChief Plus) and Legacy engines. The whistle, bell and crew talk on a Legacy engine can be accessed with the whistle and bell buttons on the AH101 controllers. Two short button presses actuate crew talk dialog.

I mentioned in a previous post, I’ve had one for about the last ten years or so, and it’s been great! I run conventional, and plan on expanding my layout another 5x9’, and it shoul still do the trick. I even bought an extra handheld, in case mine goes south. I’ve had long experience with MRC HO power packs, and I’m still running my 25 year old HO layout with them as well. Another neat thing is that the tether is typical phone cords and jacks, and I run my layout with extra long phone cords. I even wired an extra jack on the other side of the layout. (You can unplug, walk around and plug in without interrupting the running trains).

I had one.  If I remember correctly,  the middle rail was common and outside rail was +.  With some trains the horn blew constantly ( Williams I believe).   You  could not phase with other transformers.    I solved the problem by reversing the leads on the plug.  I gave it to my son last Christmas and it runs conventional engines fine.  I would not use it with modern electronics.
