Browsing through the Tinman-3Rail site, I came across some tech tips on O22 switch tracks.  One of the suggestions is to install jumpers in the switch drive.  This is done to bypass the slide switch mechanism, with it's contacts that can become difficult to repair.  I am not quite sure what he has the jumpers soldered to.

 I think the upper photo shows a jumper between the outer binding post solder lug and ?

The lower photo shows a jumper from the opposite binding post solder lug to ?

I wonder if anyone can shed more light on this.

Dan, your idea may be brilliant. I am no mechanical whiz and cannot render an intelligent opinion about it.

I Know a guy, Dennis, who can take any 022 switch junker and make it work flawlessly forever. He is an engineer by profession, absolutely loves Postwar trains and can fix anything Postwar. When he fixes something for me, he never requests a fee. When I ask him how much is fair, he tells me I can pay whatever I want. This is so nice, that I am always generous with Dennis. 

I’ve seen Dennis fix O22 switches for me and a local train store. He is very skilled at soldering and he would fix the slide switch mechanism and contacts, not bypass it.

I’m sure there are more than a few guys like Dennis who are members of this Forum.

It's a cop-out for not having the skill & proper tools to repair the slides & contacts correctly.

The method will make the otherwise perfectly designed 022 act like the lesser O-27 1122/1122E in that the solenoid coils will now not shut off when a train is parked on the switch. It will also mask a weak coil or mal-adjusted/serviced throw mechanism as the coil will stay energized longer for the throw.
