PRR and PC and Conrail and Amtrak and NS fans. I now have PRR "K"- braced, double track catenary poles available in two flavors with more coming. These poles are modeled after the poles found on the PRR between Philadelphia and Harrisburg, PA. Right now an "economy" pole is available with 12 scale inch square columns (vice the prototype's 14 inch square) and is 8" wide by 6 5/8 high under the arch. This pole has minimum dimensions to keep the price as low as possible.
A "full dimension" pole designed for double track on 4 inch centers and has 14 scale inch square columns and is 8 7/8 wide and 8 1/4 high under the arch.
Both poles have rivet detail on the "K" braces per the prototype.
If you were at the Strasburg show last month you may have seen the test model; these are better with thinner flanges and the rivet detail added.
These models are produced by 3D printing to your order. I have a shop on Shapeway's (the 3D printer) website called "Scenic Reality"; to get there click here.
Here's how this works. I have placed the 3D files on Shapeways. You can select a model, select a material to have it printed in, and place your order with Shapeways. Shapeways prints your model and ships it to you. Read the model descriptions carefully so that you are happy with the finished product.
Prices are set largely by Shapeways based on the material chosen, the volume of the model plus a service charge per model printed. I have a markup on each model which does not significantly affect the price - it's just "beer money" (which I hope will eventually pay for the test prints that I've made).
The beauty of this business model is that so long as Shapeways and other 3D printing service bureaus exist, the model need not go out of production. I am looking to upload these models to another 3D printing service which offers additional choices in materials and I will make that shop live after I receive test prints. BTW - the I have to pay for the test prints, so not every combination of model and material will be tested.
I have other models in my shop and more coming. In the shop are the B&O dwarf signal, separate rain caps for PRR catenary and power line insulators for high tension wires. Coming are PRR-profile high-tension insulators, a PRR dwarf signal, component bridge girders with full rivet detail, more versions of the catenary poles and a B&O cantalever signal.
