Really! Such a unique concept loco and no one wants one?
OH but we will take another Hudson, K4s, Big Boy, Challenger, Allegheney, Class A, Class J, GP7, Gp9, Gp38, Trainmaster F unit, Pa unit, Over and Over and Over again!

Not a surprise, a real odd ball for most people's layouts.
What a conversation piece . To bad for all interested .
I would have wanted one. But two grand is 'way further than my wallet will stretch.
The ACE 3000 is still listed on the eMail "up-date" I received from Scott overnight.
You can always make your own.
Two grand for a locomotive that never existed? Um, no thanks. At least if it does ever get produced there should be fewer arguments about detail placement and paint scheme authenticity.
I just don't see 2 railers supporting fantasy projects like this... I know I don't want one.
Sorta sad to hear. Though O72 and higher locomotives are not operable on a layout that my space will support, I liked the idea of the ACE 3000. And would have like to see how others might have colored their ACE 3000's; what railroads, real or fantasy, they would have assigned them.
But if the market for "what if" is not amoungst those with large layouts and budgets, the ACE 3000 has little chance of coming to fruition. I do understand that model railroading, as in "modeling" actual railroads, has little room for fantasy.
Maybe some day...

Considering that other "fantasy / what if" products from Lionel and MTH seem to sell, such as Daylight cab forwards, etc., I'm not sure I agree with the above. Maybe Lionel or MTH need to make this product.
Good. Now back to:

A Lionel or MTH model wouldn't cost much less (maybe more...) and I would expect the same reaction as the 3rd Rail announcement.
The only available model was in HO brass and apparently only 10 were produced. No interest has been shown from any of the HO mass production companies (Athearn, Atlas, etc.) and the ACE 3000's time passed 35 years ago.
Add in that 3rd Rail couldn't muster enough interest, this would seem to be a pretty good indication about the viability of a model.

Too bad. Very imaginative, but this hobby is not really about being "imaginative" (the press releases notwithstanding). "Warbonnets, anyone? No, thanks - I'm full."
It reminds me of the automobile "hobby": Really? Another '57 Chebby? Really? Oh - a '65 Mustang. Great. Like we've never seen that done (and re-done and re-re-done) before.
I probably would not have ordered an ACE 3000 - not because I didn't want it, but because of budget allocations. On the list, but not at the top of it. I still wanted it.
My favorite loco is the NYC Hudson with the Niagara nipping at its heels. Followed by the Mohawk - but, even I have enough of all of them, and won't buy any more until if and when they come out with the later J3a variations, early L1 Mohawks or some L2 variations. The ACE was a breath of fresh air.
And the L&N Berkshire - the most modern Berkshire ever built - still a 3RO MIA.
Not surprised at all...$2k for a fantasy locomotive, that's Lionel and MTH's job for a lot less money.
Now FP45s on the other hand.....since they already built the train for them.......no brainer!
I couldn't help from thinking about this engine decked out in PRR whiskers, whether Tuscan or DGLE. That's as far as it went.
Interesting concept,though.

That's how they're keeping it prototypical; cancelling it before it's built!

Hahahaha u made me spill my coffee!

We could see that "Cancelled" coming when it was announced.
As someone trying to scrap together enough pennies to buy the T&P Texas engine in AFT colors (if any are still available by then), I would not buy a purely fantasy engine like the ACE 3000 for my late 40's era layout. Now a Challenger with coal tender in Pennsy colors? Hmmm. Maybe
people hate it just like people hate my idea of lionel making the MK5000C it seams like i'm the only one that wants one
what a shame i wanted some for my fictional MK RAIL both conrail patched or just straight up MK dark blue with gold stripe and SP inspired speed lettering and snowplow with safety stripes
or an MK white face unit would be good

Yeah, no kidding! Even though it's seemingly gone.....for the moment, anyway....I'm still scratching my head over this 'coulda-been'.
Of course, more surprising would've been that sufficient orders were received to wave the green flag on this one!
OTOH, dress that b'tugly thing up in a Warbonnet paint job?........hmmmmm.
I hope this isn't scrapped forever. I really want one of these but its simple not a budget possibility right now.
Shocking!
Guys,
23 reservations. Pathetic. If the public wanted it they would come out for it. But in this case they didn't.
Can't make models with no customers.
If you want to see these things, reserve them. That's all I can say.
Scott
I bet if you offered the FP45 Scott, you'd get a few more reservations than 23

Except, how many railroads had FP45 units, besides the Santa Fe?
This is an interesting locomotive, but I have to get some other locomotives and freight cars this year.
Andrew
The 3 window SD60M is a more practical choice.

Didn't the Milwaukee Road have some in at least two different paint schemes?

Yep. Milwaukee Road had 5 of them. They were delivered in the passenger yellow and gray and later painted black and orange. The Milwaukee Road and Santa Fe were the only roads to be original purchasers of the FP45.

U want odd, prototypical and awesome? Try the Krauss Maffeis in SP and D&RGW!
