Apologies first for the shaky one handed video.  This is my first PS3 upgrade.  This is a PS1 GS4 I picked up several years ago for a great deal.  It ran fantastic as is and I had put off the upgrade for too long.  Following advice from the forum ad the detailed upgrade manual, this was a breeze.  I will certainly be performing more and actually really enjoyed the process.

Only thing I am not sure of is if I will keep the current sound set.  I got it from a PS3 version of 4449 but the station sounds call it the coastal and I would prefer another sound set.  Also the volume does not go very high and is easily drowned out at 45 MPH and above.  I installed the volume pot, but don't think that would be the issue as adjusting it has zero effect.  Any thoughts or ideas are appreciated.

Well?? Was the speaker from the kit? Have you tried a feature reset? It sounds awful quiet? You didn't re-use the 16 ohm stock PS1 speaker did you?

There have been a few soundsets released where the volume was lower than others. Later releases had the soundset's volume corrected. Usually you can find a later release and use the sounds.

I really prefer to use an enhanced speaker like a peerless 4 ohm that will fit. Usually that only helps the low end sounds and not the total volume.

Yes, Kit speaker @ 4 ohms.

I will try some others, not enamored with this one for the most part.

Good to know, what's your source for these?

Nice job. She runs good, is that Scaletrax you’re using?

Thank you, and yes it's Scaletrax.  I love it personally, bends well, looks great, and trains run well on it and the switches.

The volume pot is for conventional mode only, doesn't do anything in DCS mode. As for the sound sets, I defer to others with more experience.

That was my understanding too.

Glad to hear the upgrade went so smoothly though, I may try one myself someday.

I had it in my mind as being more complicated, but once I tore into the loco it all went well.  The instructions are well done and simple to follow.  I read them over twice before starting.   I have my GTEL I plan to convert next.

Was this your first upgrade overall, or just first PS3?  I'm curious if one has to be well experienced in performing the upgrade.  I'm considering upgrading a Proto1 that is stuck in neutral.

This should be an easy fix, did you follow unlock procedures in instructions?  Or does it just not have forward but does have neutral and reverse?  G

Thanks for the links, I am thinking of ordering to check out the low range response.  Going to measure to see exactly what I can fit.  Would love if I could use dual speakers.

It was my first overall.  I have installed electronics in my RC stuff for years, mainly soldering connectors and programming the speed control parameters.  I was honestly pleased with how simple it is.

One of our club members installed a PS3 into his PS1 in his C&O H8 steam locomotive. It is the loudest sound any of us members have ever heard. He said he just used the new speakers that came with the kit, as well as, the baffles.......!

I think it's the sound set, as I installed the baffles too.  My other PS3 factory locos are loud, so this one surprised me.
