I have a 12 ft. rope light that seems to have a section of about 2 ft. in the middle that doesn't work. Common sense says to throw it all away BUT... wait a minute, maybe I can cut it up and use smaller segments of it for lighting on my layout!!! It's an older rope light so it's not LED bulbs and should work on lower voltage transformer power if I use only smaller 4 to 6 inch sections for structure lights etc. Many of today's accessories have no lights and placing a small segment of the rope (4 or 5 lights) up under the roof should look good; the lights are pretty dim with a soft amber glow that I like anyway.
So whatcha think... am I as crazy as my wife keeps telling me I am? Or is this a good "recycling, repurposing" idea to help brighten up the layout. Anyone with any experience or thoughts on this?
