During December and January my youngest son and I do our annual Running of the Trains Today was Day 1 when we pull out our older locomotives and rolling stock that get very little track time. The locos get lubed and make 15-20 passes over the layout while he and I reminisce about when we got each piece. Each has a story. The short video is of my son running his K-Line NS Coal Hauler that he got for Christmas 27 years ago when he was just 3 years old. The Lionel Jersey Central GP9 was a gift to me from late first wife back in 1980. ThePC Geep was bought at Downtown Hobbies when my wife worked in downtown Chicago. We'd go to the store several times a year to window shop and look for a bargain. The DT & I switch engine was the first loco I bought when I got back into model trains after graduate school in 1978. The MPS New Haven Fs were bought on by my wife and I back in 1984 asa Father's Day gift. My eldest son surprised me with the postwar Santa Fe a few birthdays ago.

It's very endearing that you and your son have this annual ritual.
Very cool.
Some of my fondest memories are of me running my trains with my Father every Christmas.
That is great you and your son run trains together each year!! There is a lot going on in your neat layout!!
I've had trains since I bought an HO set back in '68 or '69, but have never had a family member who was interested in learning how to run the trains with me. I'm sure everyone who has had someone to run trains with cherishes the memories.
A lot of memories with those trains.
Wonderful tradition and great memories.
I love this tradition. Wonderful idea that puts emphasis on family while giving the trains more meaning than simply items from a hobby.
Very nice. Nick
