I started this layout in the fall of 2011 for a customer, I built the table's ,laid the track , did the wiring and other thing over the year's , he did all the scenery placing the building's and other thing's now he has sold his house and is moving to Florida ,so it has to come down the layout is in a pole barn that he has a body shop in the other side and has least from the new owner for a year , he is having a new house built in Florida . I started 3 week's a go tearing it down , I have all of it down and now I'm packing it up to go south .

Phew...i got tired just thinking about it..where in Fla? I am in central fla in the winter.
Great looking layout and details. Too bad it's being moved but it does give you a chance to change things or even make it better. Good luck!
You tore all that down? Makes me tired just looking at it.
Yes, I was going to ask, How do you go about disassembling a layout of that magnitude? Wow, that's gotta be a job and a half! I wouldn't even know where to start or how to start.
Was the end objective to be able to reassemble it?
I have been working on a similar puzzle. It's 11' x 17' on the first level, 3 track levels and a scenic level with a helix connecting the levels. Whomever cut it up did their best to pick places where track could be removed for a cut line. Eagle Scout Project
Labeling the wiring and packing the buildings is the worst part.
It's actually not that bad to reassemble a layout.
I tried saving a layout many a times... There are just too many opportunities at the new place.
Not one of my former layouts survived.
Guy,
That makes my back hurt just looking at the take down work that occurred. Sending it to Florida is going to be a project also!

I am amazed by some of the work people do, and this is no exception! Where in Florida is he moving to out of curiousity, as I am in the northern part of the state (apparently the only O gauger, too).
Thanks for all the reply's , he is moving to St. Petersburg Florida they just started his house 2 week's a go ( he has a another house down the street to live in till the new is done ) CONRAILFAN ask how do you start you first get all car's ,engine's off and packed up( that took 4 day's  then you go after the building's and scenery that will come up suck all the ballast then go after the track there is about 8 different size of curved track had to bundle together 3 week later your done with that . Next take the platform a part to use wood to build crate for thing's that don't have box's that is what I'm working on now .
Moonman none of the platform will be reused , only for crate's , it will be a hole new layout and that will be about 2 years away .
I have about 3 more day's of building crate's for different thing's and it will be ready to ship .
Guy
Where will you put new layout?....Florida is reputed to be short on basements...
COLORADO In his new house upstairs there will be a room for the layout .

Guy,
Thanks for the detail. We were all thinking the layout was being moved. That's still a lot of work to recover everything. Good luck with the packing!

That's a lot of packing. Anything you decide not to take down there you can send to me.
