Just want to get some thoughts on paint colors for wooden benchwork. Since the support beams kind of resemble trestlework, I was thinking perhaps a dark gray to give it the look of steel. Does anyone have any other suggestions?
When it comes to wood, I've always preferred a dark stain over paint.
On a layout, I wouldn't want the benchwork to draw attention away from the layout itself, so a dark neutral color (like dark gray) would be best if you go with paint so that the eye is drawn away from the benchwork and towards the colorful scenery on the layout itself.
I prefer flat black paint but have not gotten around to the entire structure yet--just the upper trim and facing.
I stained a 5 track,dual shelf,high 14x32 layout, 7'-6" & 9' in my wife's 18' high kit-breakfast room at our mountain cottage. The stain did hide a lot of wood blemishes.
