I need some advice on painting fastrack rails. I have tried several different ways already and none have given me the results I want. I have tryed Flowquil pens, hobby paint-earth brown, thought of decanning some Krylon earth brown camo paint and paniting them with a brush. Thought about taping them and spray painting the rails. Just not sure what to do. I want a good flat, no gloss rust color that will cover in one coat with little hasstle--any ideas will be greatly appreciated. About to just put some balast on the side and let it go. Thanks in advance for any help.

I am interested in the same. I have seen some great looking weathered fastrack on the forum, hopefully some of those folks can share their secrets.
Like we talked about, the Krylon or Rustoleum Earth Brown Camo is the best rail color I've found. The camo colors are ultra flat and should stick well to the fasttrack rails, even with a brush.

These ae done with the earth brown camo and some weathering powders. It will probably take two coats to cover. Ballast is Brennans. Good Luck

I also have used the Earth brown by Rustoleum, it dries dead flat and is a good match for most rails today.
Ray, your track looks great. Did you use a spray or brush? The Brennan's balast looks great-it really pops. Can't wait for mine to come in. Thanks Dennis for your support. I tried several things yesterdaywith hobby paints and it looked terriable.
Blue painters tape on both sides of the rail. Floquil Rail Brown not earth brown.
Once the paint has dried over night use a rag damp with thinner and your finger to clean the rail tops.

I used a brush. Any overpaint can be wiped with a rag and thinner. Spraying area is too small for me. If the first finish is not flat enough, powdered school chalk mixed in the paint will dull it more. Just work a little at a time as it will clump. Thineer will clean up any mistakes.
Ray, one more question. Did you use the spay paint and decan it? Thanks for your help.
Yes, spayed into a dish and chalk added. I think other non spray colors would work just as well. Just find one acceptable. It will probably take two coats, especially on the more visible areas. Sometimes the trains will scuff the paint so I have started to try sealing with some flat spray and wiping the rails before it dries.
