Got this car here

The cover is just too much the same color

Step one

Do I use my polyscale and floquil paints?

All you people with an eye for colors, what do you think

I was considering,it being my first attempt at ever painting anything train car related,to just doing the 4 pick up thing's and the things in the center Yellow maybe?

I've done alot of plastruc painting,I have all my books on building, and a painting book, and I have my color wheel, which I barely understand.

And the room my trains are in if very dim lighting,so it hide's all my mistakes

My second idea is to spray the whole top a different color, then highlight the details

I've painted all this plastruc stuff,so I'm familiar with it,

I just have never done anything with train cars,I don't even know what paint you guy's use

All advice appreciated

Hello - Agreed, you have a lot of orange staring at you.  My similar type of car came with black body and gray cover, if that is any help at all.  As for brand of paint, anything suitable for plastic will work. Everyone has their favorite.  Many folks here like to use the spray cans available at auto supply stores, as there is a great variety of colors.  The formulae seem to have changed over the years, such that they seem safe for plastic now.  But of course WalMart has the best price for spray cans.

I've been reading my

Model railroader Basic Painting and weathering book

and

evergreen styrene modeling basic painting chapter

So I got the type of paint figured out

This has to be light gray primered if I'm going to paint the whole thing

I just haven't figure out what color to do

My color wheel has tints and complamentary color's

I just have to figure it out a  little more
