Many that own pellet stoves may know this, but I thought share something I stumbled on years ago. At the bottom of every bag of pellets, are what are called fines. Basically saw dust. They are however not good for the auger in your stove. A friend of mine told me how he deals with this. I have an old colander on top of a bucket that I dump the last quart or so of pellets into, swish them around a bit and the fines go into the bucket, the pellets go into the stove. All that being said, I would just dump the fines outside in the back part of the property. One day I was tinkering with a section of my layout, and wasn't sure what I wanted to do with it, but I was tired of looking at blue foam. Anyhow I guess I had an epiphany and decided to experiment. I painted a small section with a fairly thick coat of latex ground colored paint and sifted some through a flour sifter. I let it all dry for a day or so and vacuumed up the loose stuff, and was pleasantly surprised at the texture it left. What I have found since is that it gives tooth to adding whatever texture you would like to do. Merry Christmas everyone!
