Quick question - is it possible to simply cut off the end of a PH 180 brick and attach the wires to my FT to operate LC+ in wireless, not conventional, mode. If not, what additional items are necessary to insert between the brick and the FT.

Yes you could. You could use a terminal block to attach the PH too with spades crimped on, and than jumper to the FT.
Also, Lionel made a lock on that the PH plugged directly into and that would connect to the FT. Not sure if they still make them. It looked like a small utility building and had circuit protection internally. G
I just buy the matching Molex connector from Digikey and wire that. That way I can keep the bricks intact and not be chopping them up.

As usual Guns has the way to set up using the Bricks, pick up the Molex Connector and the Matching Contacts and leave your Brick intact! Some day you may want to sell it and actually pick up a good Z4K Transformer!

I used those connectors and added pigtails with banana plugs to connect to a TIU. Menards is a great source for inexpensive, gold banana plugs from RCA.
For FT, you could use a ring connector and connect the ring under the rail tabs under the track, or you could connect Molex to the FT power wires that are made for the FT spade lugs.
