CAN ANYONE HELP ME IN UNDERSTANDING HOW TO PHASE 2 PW ZW TRANSFORMERS?  THIS IS WHAT I "GLEANED" FROM THE WEB:

1. CONNECT A WIRE TO POST A ON TRANSFORMER #1 THEN CONNECT THE OTHER END OF THE WIRE TO POST A ON TRANSFORMER #2.

2. CONNECT A DIFFERENT WIRE TO POST U ON TRANSFORMER #1 (LEAVE THE OTHER END ALONE)

3. TURN BOTH TRANSFORMERS UP TO 18 VOLTS.

4. TOUCH THE LOOSE WIRE ATTACHED TO POST U ON TRANSFORMER #1 TO POST U ON TRANSFORMER #2.

IF THERE IS A LARGE SPARK THE TRANSFORMERS ARE NOT IN PHASE.

TO PUT THEM IN PHASE UNPLUG ONE OF THE TRANSFORMERS AND REVERSE HOW IT IS PLUGGED INTO THE SOCKET.

ONCE THIS IS DONE KEEP THE COMMON WIRE ATTACHED TO TRANSFORMER #1 & #2.

IS THIS CORRECT???  OR AM I MISSING SOMETHING?

THANX,

PAUL

Connect the U posts of the two transformers together.  Run the right side handle on each transformer up to around 10 volts.  Measure between the two D posts with an AC meter.  You should read a very low voltage if they're phased properly.  If not, flip one of the power plugs.

You can also use an 18 volt bulb instead of the voltmeter, just make sure you don't to very high on either handle.  If the bulb is very dim or out, they're phased correctly.  If the bulb is bright, they're out of phase.

Paul,

I have been using gunrunnerjohns 18 volt light bulb test for years on my ZW's & KW's.  I even use a wire nut on each end of the light bulb socket wires.  Remember all you need is about 10-12 Volts from the ZW handles to do the phase test.  If the light bulb comes on bright as you turn up the voltage, you know the transformers are out of phase.  The bulb should be dimley lit if the transformers are in Phase.

I mark the side of the plug with white marker coming from both the ZW's that gets placed into the right female section of the wall plug.   Sense my ZW's are my secondary transformers, they must all match my primary Z4k also, and they must have 10 Amp breakers to protect the DCS TIU.
