A friend sent me a link to some great photos of gas (a.k.a filling) stations of these eras. I thought about those of you that build your own structures, and these photos hopefully will give you some inspiration and ideas to build.

Cool stuff Mike. Reminds me of the time when Red Ball stations would give you a free styrofoam red ball to put on antenna. Best was the Tiger tail given away to have coming from your gas filll door...put a Tiger in you tank.

I was surprised by the woman with the dalmations filling her own tank back then.
She may have been a station attendent during WWII. Her hat looks a bit like a uniform cap. The car is a 1942 Ford, and it was common for woman to take over jobs for men in the service.
The thing I found odd out of the lot.....only two had the price of gas advertised. It was 26 and 27 cents in two photos.
Guess at that time, it was not such a big deal. I do remember when I started driving it was around 25 to 30 cents in the early '60's.

Ace, I'd bet that the station in your photo is an old Pure station. Easy to spot due to the chimneys and the exceptionally steep roof.

Those automobiles in the filling station photographs don't look old to me!

Still existing in Fairport NY,
Also in Phillipsburg, NJ... NOw as a dry cleaner. the Phillipsburg one has/had TWO service bays
You can't tell me this was a train station at one time!!!
Those Fairport and Phillipsburg stations have several twins. Several in that style were Sunoco stations, and one of them is not far from here enjoying a second life
as a real estate agent's office.
