LAST RUN OF PIEDMONT S GAUGERS A 12 YEAR RUN
Replies sorted oldest to newest
No young people to run it we are 99 percent over 70 we will go to train shows and have lunch but no more layout to set up or take down
That's a shame. Seems to be a common theme among clubs (not getting younger members)
Brendan
This very true i hope that changes soon
Doug,
I see that also in the future of the BSG, very sad.
Ray
it is sad Ray but we had two members under 70 the two under where father and son and they have school and work
Mark i think true for most clubs although the atlantic coast sgaugers are still strong carolina divison
Where was this photo taken?
I think most clubs fall into the “bigger is better” trap, and keep increasing their layout size until it is just too much work for fewer and fewer active members to set up. Our club here in Broward County, FL (Ft. Lauderdale) is facing a similar problem with our multiple layouts in G, O 3-rail, HO, and N gauges. I would like to see us try to set up smaller layouts, perhaps in only one scale per show, rather than to try to fill a venue with mega layouts in all scales. I know my old club in Miami has reached a similar point with their HO modular layout, and they are only dealing with one scale instead of many.

Bill i would agree with you, we reduce our shows in number and size of layout we have plenty of people we just couldnt do what we use to do
Doug,
Sorry to hear that, NPS is gaining members, although the majority are in the senior category.
Gen Xers are represented but no Millennials, not surprising though.
Francine glad to here your group is doing well

Sorry to hear about the last run of your club. Just curious, but what happened to the father and son?
Work and school keep them from set up but they where very good when there. most set ups were on Thursday
I missed the Asheville show this year. It is sad to hear of this club closing. Being a Flyer collector myself I have been thinking of building a simple portable Flyer layout to take to some of the local shows. Maybe it is about time for me to retire from railfanning and get to work on this layout.
