Joe:

I assume you mean plastic walkways. A lot of people used chalks. If needed I do so also as a finishing item. I tend more towards spray painting for the general effect. Start with flat black about 80% coverage then overspray with the wood color to get a 'dirty' effect. If needed I will spray on some more black for an aged look or red oxide for a rusty look. some people will 'dry paint' with white for an aged effect (see photo - someone else's work).

If you go with chalks buy some cosmetic wedges at a local grocery store. They work great at spreading the chalk around.

On occasion I have glued wood planks stained with MicroMark RR tie and Bridge Stain - gray/brown to the plastic then used some gray and black chalk to age.

Thanks Joe

Got tired of waiting so I used Model Master wood lightly dusting over a light dusting of Painters Touch red primer. The walkways were black so that was already there. Finished off with a coat of Hunterline Tie Brown over a heavy coat of Hunterline Blue Gray. After I sprayed the railings flat black then I dry brushed some rust on them. I'm undecided about the railings since on close examination they appear to be concrete posts with wood rails but the boardwalk turned out well. The look I was after was dirty aged wood and I got it with the stain.

Andre thanks I got the extra brick and finally found the rooftop rainwater collection boxes. They're exactly what I was looking for.
