I have been using those dark brown plastic stir sticks - some bought in 200 pc pks, others taken from MacDonald's and Subway - glued in lots of 6 for the smaller ones representing 48 inches and in lots of 5 for the larger ones , I have painted them with crafter's acrylic Silver to turn them out as aluminum siding
I am planning to set to pile them 6 or seven high, and skid them to represent bundles , hopefully makeing loads for my rail cars
Was wondering if any once else had tried this

Love it....very good idea and the final product looks great.
I made wood loads from the wooden coffee stirrers by gluing bundles together with Elmers then clamping with binder clips. Stacks about 4 or 5 thick, about 4 or 5 inches long make great loads on those flatcars with stakes that are plentiful at trains shows.
