I would like to know what size mounting screws are needed for a Lionel 2460 crane car. I know 4 are needed to mount the plate to the frame and would like to know if they are available and what the size is. The Greenberg book lists a 4 x 1/4 size. Is it a special thread that is needed or will any 4 x 1/4 screw work?
The 2460 I just cleaned up had six screws mounting the cab to it's plate.
The original screws were self threading type "Z" screws.
These are different than the self tapping sheet metal screws that are commonly found in hardware stores. The better hardware stores in my area carry self-threading screws, but only down to size 6.
I expect that most Lionel parts dealers should have suitable screws.
